Grand final fares reach $6,000 as airlines add thousands of seats
Perth and Brisbane fans are racing to Melbourne; Qantas, Jetstar and Virgin have added flights.

The ABC found Perth–Melbourne return fares as high as $6,000 in grand final week.
Qantas added 13 Perth–Melbourne flights, about 2,300 seats, on top of about 8,000 already added, and Qantas and Jetstar seven more from Brisbane. Virgin Australia, the AFL’s airline, added nearly 4,000 seats from Perth and more than 1,000 from Brisbane between 23 and 29 September.
Flight Centre says Melbourne bookings from Brisbane and Perth are up 126% on last year. Our advice: fly Thursday, not Friday.
